Projects are a combination of applications, files, and settings that can be applied to a group of devices.
Devices can be associated with a project in one of three ways:
- IMEI or Serial: useful if the admin knows these ahead of time (i.e. when using Zero-touch enrollment) or if they know who the end user of the device will be or if user assignment is anonymous.
- QR Code: useful if the admin does not want to register the devices ahead of time (i.e. using QR code enrollment).
This article will describe the steps required to assign devices to a project so those policies can be applied.

Adding Device(s) to a Project by IMEI or Serial
Prerequisites:
Before you can add the device(s) to a project, they must be registered to the company.
For information on adding devices to your company, please see our knowledgebase article here.
- Navigate to the Project Devices page
- After navigating to this page, you will see a table used to display all the devices assigned to this project.
- To add devices, press the three dots menu on the right side of the screen, and choose one of the following options:
- Add Devices: for adding <100 devices
- Actions via CSV: for performing actions, like adding devices, to more than 100 devices at once.
Add Devices
- Choose Add Devices to see the following window:
- Select the device(s) to be added to the project.
- Once you have selected which device(s) you need to add, press the Add button in the bottom right to assign them to the project.
Actions via CSV
- Choose an action:
- Add to Project
- Remove from Project
- Send Command
- Attach your .CSV
- Download the Sample.CSV to have a blank template already properly formatted for use
- Be sure that all devices load in the preview window, and then click "Upload X Devices"
- This process is the same for removing devices from the project using a .CSV file.
Optional - Instantly Apply Policies
- If the Ensemble application has not been installed onto the devices, then no further action is needed, the project will be automatically applied once the device is provisioned.
- If the Ensemble application has already been installed onto the devices, they will check in within 24 hours to receive the project policies (unless the time frame was changed in the previous project)
- To instantly push the changes to the devices, either deploy the project or send reload policy commands to specific devices.
Adding Device(s) to a Project by QR Code
Prerequisites
Before you can add the device(s) to a project, they must be registered to the company.
For information on adding devices to your company, please see our knowledgebase article here.
- Navigate to the Project Devices page:
Once on this page, you will be able to see the QR code auto-generated at the top of the device table, under the Registration titlehead.
To register a device after the MDM app (Ensemble) has been installed, scan this QR code from the Android login screen.
Deploy the Project
This will cause all devices on the project to check-in and apply the latest project policies.
- Navigate to the Deploy tab on the left
- Check Instant to apply the policies immediately
- Choose your desired deployment options:
For information regarding deployment options, please see our knowledgebase article here.
- Press Re-Deploy. The latest policies will be pushed to the device(s).
Reload Policies
- Use the Actions via CSV to reload the policies of particular devices at one time.
- Upload .CSV file as normal and choose Send Command as the action.
- Choose Reload Command in the Select a Command field.
- Ensure the devices load in the preview window, then click "Upload X Devices".
You can also send commands to devices individually:
- Use the checkboxes to select multiple devices, or just find the one device you need.
- Click the Options button on the right side of the screen, and choose Remote Commands.
- Choose the option you need, and Ensemble will send the commands to those device(s).
